BOATTRAILERS
Boat trailers are often a post of investment for many starting boat anglers that is not always correctly estimated. A fishing boat angler drives on average many more kilometres per year than the touring boat holidaymaker. It is very important for a day's safe fishing fun. Nothing is more frustrating than a boat that does not roll off the trailer. And of course you also like to drive safely with a well adjusted trailer to your fishing water.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOOK OUT FOR?
When determining the weight of your boat, don't forget the weight of the batteries, full fuel tank, engine weight and other stuff you put extra in your boat.
Also think about the spare wheel or gangplank, steps etc. you put on the trailer. The weight adds up faster than you think.
WEIGHT
The length of your boat and the weight of your boat/motor combination will determine what kind of boat trailer is right for you. The length of the boat trailer may determine whether the boat/trailer is stored in a garage, for example. The length of the boat/motor cannot be changed. However, if necessary we can adjust the length of the trailer at Kalftrailers.
Another point is the weight of the trailer, which you have to deduct from the carrying capacity of the trailer. Often a too light trailer is chosen. In practice you quickly end up with a 750 kg braked trailer. Trailers with brakes are mandatory when they have a load capacity of 750 kg or more.
Do not forget to check the towing weight of your car.
ROLSYSTEM
Nowadays there are different types of rolling systems available for boat trailers. Of course this also determines the purchase price of the trailer. You have the system with bilge / keel rollers and turntables. An aluminium boat needs good support. We often choose double keel rollers (Alumacraft package).
The keel rollers are made of polyurethane, they are stronger and last longer. At the back of the trailer we mount turntables for support. Also consider a centering device and a good trailer winch for easy pulling of the boat.
EASYROLLER
The other system is the easyroller package. These are 32 bilge rollers of 24 cm diameter that make it very easy to roll the boat on and off. Ideal for anglers who don't want to lose a lot of time and who like convenience. The system can also be used as a replacement for a tilt trailer, because all rolls are hinged. A useful option with an Easyroller system is a gangway.
LIGHTING
You can opt for a traditional light source or the increasingly popular LED lighting. At Kalf trailers we can also opt for waterproof LED lighting. These can be quickly folded away without having to remove all kinds of screws. Faultless and more visible on the road.
OPTIONS
Useful options on a boat trailer are;
- Gangway, for easier trailer of the boat
- Spare wheel with a support for mounting on the boat trailer
- Steps on the side of the trailer to make it easier to get into the boat
- Lashing straps or a boatbuckle system for safely securing the boat to the trailer
- Wheel clamp or lock for the drawbar (SCM approved)
- Outboard motor support to support the tail piece
- Cover for the propeller of the outboard motor
